Pirate. Patriot. Honored Chevalier. John Paul Jones is considered by many to be the Father of the United States Navy. His naval career saw battles across the Bahamas, Nova Scotia, and the Irish and English waters, culminating in his most famous engagement at the Battle of Flamborough Head. Though his ship, Bonhomme Richard, was ultimately sunk during the fight, victory was secured. When called to surrender early in the battle, Jones famously replied, “I have not yet begun to fight.”
